installing zonelets

my notes pages were in desperate need of some sort of navigation, and while i don't really want to blog as such, ive wanted an excuse to look at Zonelets for ages. so i thought i would test it out here and see if i could get it to fit

tl;dr: i'm now using (a heavily customised version of) Zonelets to organise my notes.

Zonelets is a really simple blogging tool created by Marina Kittaka. it's designed to help people set up blogs with a very minimal amount of coding required. (actually it would be a really good way to start learning html.) it's based on a javascript file and a basic html template which you upload to your web hosting. so, let's say if you want to create a free blog, you could grab Zonelets and upload it to a free account on Neocities or Nekoweb and start writing. cool. check out the official quick start guide for more information about that.

so what i did was upload zonelets to a test folder on my Neocities and fiddled around a bit to to see if it was any good for my note pages.

zonelets posts are static html pages but yeah the navigation and template system does require javascript enabled in your browser. if you have the time you can add all the <noscript> content to make it work without (note to self). but it doesn't use a static site generator or need any other software, so you can set it up from your phone if you want (which i did). plus the zonelets template is fully responsive so your blog will automatically look awesome on both mobile and desktop.

customisation

Zonelets has a load of themes available, or if you want to get into css you can make your own. i wanted to keep my layout simple so i just linked the zonelets pages to my default style.css. then i mucked around with the JavaScript for a bit and customised the html template. and so now, behold my new notes section powered by Zonelets! sweet.

(and yes im aware that this looks suspiciously like a blog post but it's actually just a note i promise you.)
